Exhibition Rooms at Dom Carlos Museum

Besides the Dom Carlos I Oceanographic Collection, the Museum has its own collection that has been permanently enriched by new species, especially in what concerns marine fishes from the Portuguese marine fauna as well as the tropical fauna, birds, marine mammals and malacological specimens.

The Museum includes five exhibition areas:

The atrium exhibits Invertebrates from D. Carlos I Oceanographic Collection. The most important part of D.Carlos I work in the oceanographic domain is here emphasized.

On the first floor there is a large room dedicated to the fishes from D.Carlos I Oceanographic Collection.

The next room presents sharks from D.Carlos I Oceanographic Collection

The Malacology Room exhibits about 600 species from the Portuguese Coast and also from D.Carlos I Oceanographic Collection.

At last there is another room, opened to the public in 1980, exhibiting mammals, birds and tropical shells.
